🩸 What Is the Fertile Window?
The fertile period is the phase of the menstrual cycle when a woman is most likely to get pregnant. It occurs about 5 days before and up to 1 day after ovulation, which is when the egg is released from the ovary.
Ovulation typically happens 14 days before the next period.
🔍 Why is this the fertile window?
Sperm can survive up to 5 days inside the female body.
The egg can be fertilized for up to 24 hours after ovulation.
📆 How Is the Fertile Window Calculated?
You need two pieces of information:
The date of your last period (first day of bleeding)
Your average cycle length (the number of days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next)
Ovulation typically happens 14 days before your next period.
To estimate your ovulation day, subtract 14 from your total cycle length. Then, your fertile window is calculated based on that date.
⏱️ What Does “Menstrual Cycle Length” Mean?
The menstrual cycle length is the number of days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next.
For example, if your period started on the 1st of the month and your next period started on the 29th, your cycle is 28 days long.
Cycle length can vary from woman to woman (typically between 21 and 35 days) and even from month to month.
To find your average cycle length:
Track the first day of several periods in a row
Count the days between each one
Calculate the average of those intervals
